I find I can't post images in comments, so wanted to share the image of a wonderful oil on copper painting that was sent in a comment as a result of my last blog post.
This is a painting by Gerrit Dou in the Christchurch Art Gallery. This Dutch artist was born in 1613 and died in 1675. Born in Leiden, he worked for three years in Rembrandt's studio, until Rembrandt moved to Amsterdam. He was famous for his "genre" paintings, of which this is one example.
I won't go into what the physician is apparently examining. But clearly the painting has wonderful details.
My thanks for sharing this painting with everyone.
